The Flatbush-Caton Market

814 Flatbush Ave

Brooklyn, NY 11226

Caribbean culture and Caribbean cool will collide this Saturday at the Caribbeing House located at the Flatbush-Caton Market in the heart of Caribbean Brooklyn. Caribbean Girls Who Blog and Caribbeing have beautifully merged together their collective passion for Caribbean culture, creativity, and joy to curate this summer’s most exciting display of Caribbean pride in Brooklyn. Come lime with us!

The Flatbush-Caton Market

For years, the corner of Flatbush and Caton Avenues, in the heart of Caribbean Brooklyn, has been an economic battleground, a place where enterprising street vendors went head to head with local store owners. The vendors dreamed of one day having a market all their own. That dream came through in 2001. Since then the market has been a staple in the life of Caribbean people living in the heart of Flatbush Ave. Walking down Flatbush Ave and it can’t be missed with its vibrant colors and unique appeal. It’s truly an underappreciated gem!
In less than a year the market as we know it will be demolished, and the vendors it houses will move into Caton Flats, the new building to be constructed in its place. A development firm intends to construct a new building called Caton Flats with 166 apartments, a first-floor vendors’ market of about 11,000 square feet, 10,000 square feet of conventional retail space,  and a business incubator with a commercial kitchen.
With change quickly approaching, this is our grand opportunity to celebrate the authenticity of the market in it’s original form.
